Why Kaushik Bose Started Brain Box: The Story Behind the Leadership Podcast

Why Brain Box Was Created
Kaushik had long been interested in the thinking of high-profile business leaders. He recalls being a great fan of Carlos Ghosn and rushing to buy his book, Shift, hoping to find a few pearls of wisdom. He had a similar experience when he searched for Kevin O'Leary's book. The lesson he took away was not that books by famous executives have no value, but that there is something different about learning directly from successful people who are willing to discuss what actually happened in their professional lives.
The mentoring and learning you get from normal yet successful people is unmatched.
That became the foundation of Brain Box. Kaushik envisioned short 10- to 30-minute conversations, either solo or free-flowing and unscripted, with successful people from different walks of life. Rather than constructing polished interviews around predictable questions, the intention was to create a space where guests could candidly share the experiences behind their professional journeys.
The 1% Philosophy Behind the Podcast
One of the ideas Kaushik brings into the podcast from the beginning is the belief in improving just 1% a day. He describes how small changes can appear insignificant in the moment while compounding into something much larger over time. That philosophy shaped the kind of content Brain Box was intended to create: not grand declarations about success, but practical observations that a listener could take away and apply.
It also explains why Brain Box was conceived around a broad range of guests. The objective was to create a library of experiences rather than a collection of celebrity interviews. A single conversation might offer a useful perspective on leadership, another on entrepreneurship, another on navigating a corporate career, and another on building a more balanced life.
From the Corporate Jungle to Entrepreneurship
Kaushik was not approaching entrepreneurship as an observer. Before starting his own company, he had spent 14 years in B2B sales across IT companies including IBM, SAP, Wipro and GBM in Dubai. He describes having achieved significant success in his sales career, but eventually wanting to experience the other side of the professional divide: entrepreneurship.
In 2017, he started his own company with his wife, Arpita. They were first-generation entrepreneurs, with no family business background to fall back on. The transition was difficult, but the learning was substantial. More importantly, Kaushik found that there was surprisingly little practical content explaining what the transition from corporate life to entrepreneurship actually felt like.
That gap became part of Brain Box's purpose. Having experienced both sides, Kaushik wanted the podcast to explore career progression, the challenges of corporate life, entrepreneurship and the decisions involved in moving from one professional path to another.
Leadership Is Bigger Than a Job
The original Brain Box vision was deliberately broader than business. Kaushik believed that professional success could not be separated from personal life, particularly in a world where work, family and social relationships had become increasingly intertwined. That led him to include conversations with experts across areas such as sports nutrition, fitness and photography alongside discussions about business and careers.
The underlying idea was straightforward: becoming better professionally is only one dimension of becoming a better individual. If Brain Box could help a young professional, a parent, someone in the middle of a corporate career, an entrepreneur or a person considering a career transition take away even one useful idea from an episode, the conversation had served its purpose.
The Beginning of Brain Box
Episode 01 therefore matters less as a conventional podcast episode and more as the founding statement of Brain Box. It establishes the philosophy that would underpin the conversations that followed: learn from people who have actually done the work, look for practical lessons rather than celebrity wisdom, improve incrementally, and recognize that leadership and professional growth exist within the larger context of a person's life.
That was the idea at the beginning. Brain Box was created to make experience more accessible, one candid conversation at a time.
